These are night time pictures - aren't they fantastic!

The final piece of work within this unit is to create a picture which reflects the mood of a piece of music.  The children will listen to a CD-Rom from Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and New World music.

Finding Information

In this unit pupils will be using appropriate search techniques to find information from a CD-Rom.  The unit involves the children carrying out simple searches following straight forward lines of enquiry.  The pupils will begin to recognise the conventions used on a computer to signify speech, hyperlinks etc.

Creating and Testing Instructions

This unit looks at how simple instructions can direct a screen turtle.  Pupils use a series of direct commands to accurately follow a route.

Pupils recognise that certain devices need controlling and that they follow instructions.  All the pupils use the key pad to program the robot to move from the start to the end without going through a square which contained a picture.  Some pupils then tried to reduce the number of moves this process took.

Databases

This unit looks at three different types of information tools: pictograms, decision trees and databases.  Over the course of 7 weeks pupils will work with these three databases, asking questions in different ways to find out information.  Below is an example of the data the pupils will be looking at in Lesson 5 and also the worksheet given to pupils to complete the exercise.
