Foundation Stage

The foundation stage is the period of education from age three to five.  In our school it starts in the nursery and ends in the reception year.  The foundation stage is a very important stage in a child’s life, in the early years children are developing more rapidly and learning faster than at any other time in their lives.
Within the foundation stage children work towards ‘early learning goals’. Most of our pupils will achieve these goals by the end of the foundation stage. Some children will exceed these goals and some may still need to work towards some of the goals at the end of reception.
The early learning goals are divided into six key areas:-
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Mathematical Development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development
