Events in 2007/2008
On Sunday afternoon on 6
July 2008 the PTA put on a Wild West BBQ for the children and their families at
the school. The weather was not kind to us (although
according to the forecast it could have been even worse) but we had a
fantastic turnout of happy families in cowboy hats and rain macs!
Vittles were provided by the BBQ food and Mrs Yoxall's special
children's cocktails and there were lots of
things to do: shouting "yeehaw"
and line dancing in the hall with professional line dancers, striking
cowboy (or cowgirl) poses for photos in front of the wild west
backdrop, clattering the cans in tin
can alley, testing your aim at the coconut
shy, dipping strawberries and marshmallows in
the chocolate fountain and bobbing for apples. There were also some great
raffle prizes to be won - the
raffle alone raised £160. We will
confirm at a later date the total amount raised
by the event and what "extras" are
to be bought for the children with
this money!

Pancake Races
This year (further to an
excellent suggestion from a parent) the PTA pre-made 120 pancakes and sold
them in the dining hall during and after the pancake races. We hope that
the pancakes helped warm-up children and parents (it was a chilly
afternoon!), and since all the pancakes were donated by PTA members, the
pancake sales raised an additional £60 which will be used to buy equipment
for the children.

Family Bingo afternoon
The Family Bingo afternoon on Friday 25th January sold out very quickly, so
apologies to those of you who were not able to get tickets. Those who did
attend had some good family fun and a "PTA ploughmans", and although the
event was not meant to be a fundraiser, it did, in fact, raise nearly £100
which will be used to buy equipment for the children.

Family Christmas Crafts
It was a delight
to see so many parents and children at the Family Christmas Crafts afternoon
on the penultimate day of term. The afternoon was run by PTA members
(led by Jacinta Balchin) with fantastic assistance from some hard-working
Year 6 students. Entrance was only 50p (children only) and every child was
able to visit Father Christmas (seen below in his beautiful grotto with both
his elf and with an awe-struck Reception child) who had brought the children
some really wonderful presents. Children could also: make a colourful
spinner; colour a festive bookmark; make a festive magnet; fill a sand art
bottle; make a badge; make a snow storm keyring; colour a wooden biff bat;
create a scratch art bookmark and make a wooden clip on bookmark. Parents
had a great time too buying Mrs Yoxall's super mince pies, tea towels
displaying a self portrait by every child in the school and other school
merchandise!

Quiz Evening
The Quiz Evening on
Saturday 10th November was an even bigger success than in 2006, and for the
second year running, the "Reception table" won! A combination of ticket sales
and raffle ticket sales raised over £700. This was a great start to our
fundraising for the new academic year.
Frog Racing and Curry Evening
The Frog Racing and Curry
Evening on Saturday 16th June - was a very enjoyable event for the parents
(including many Dads) who attended. We raised over £700.

Pamper Evening
The school hall was unrecognisable on the Friday of Mothering Sunday weekend
when both Mums and teachers followed the candle lit path into a sanctuary
bedecked with fairy lights and candles, and enjoyed various pampering treatments
including remedial massage by Susie Hampshire, nail treatments by Martine Taylor
and Dominic Varnava, facials and makeovers by Virgin Vie and hairdressing by
Lisa Tsindides. In the intervals between treatments there was an opportunity
for “retail therapy” with stalls carrying: Finishing Touches Jewellery; Phoenix
Cards and Glamorous Bra Straps, and painting of a very grown-up kind was going
on at the Crafty Pots table.
The evening was made more special by the two wonderful waiting staff from
South Woodford restaurant VK who brought round a never ending supply of
excellent canapés. These were most welcome – particularly since they were all
included in the ticket price!
The evening was a great social event and we also raised £500.
